Pink Diamond Engagement Rings in Melbourne
Pink diamonds, those diamonds with a natural pink colour, are a rare and unique stone, perfect for unique diamond engagement rings. The source of their colouring is still being debated, though is commonly considered by geologists that it is a result of the enormous additional pressure these diamonds are put under during their formation, that alters their molecular structure, and as a result, their hue. They are of the subcategory named fancy colour diamonds, containing all those diamonds that are naturally coloured. The Argyle Mine in Kimberley, Western Australia is one of the worlds most abundant sources of these phenomenal diamonds. Pink diamonds create a unique engagement ring. Natural fancy coloured diamonds come in different cuts, and pink diamonds pair well with a rose gold shank.

The Four C’s of Diamonds: Colour, Cut, Clarity and Carat
When looking for diamonds, the crucial factors to be aware of are: colour, cut, clarity and carat.
Colour of Diamonds
What is considered a ‘perfect’ diamond is entirely colourless, and these are generally the most expensive. Though most diamonds might appear neutral, they do have slight tones of brown or yellow. The colour range is labelled from D – entirely colourless to Z – heavily tinted.
The colour grade is so subtle that it often is not visible, but diamonds past the grade of N may be visible, and beyond S the hue may grow intense. Naturally coloured diamonds come in all colours, with yellow being the most common, the rarest are red blue, green and white.
Cut of Diamond
The cut of the diamond regards the proportions, symmetry, finish and polish, and these factors will determine the brilliance and intensity of the diamond. The width and depth of the cut on the diamond will affect how light travels through, and exits, creating its signature brilliant shine. The term cut also refers to the shape or the particular style of diamonds for rings. The most common ring shapes are:
- Round
- Oval
- Princess (single square centred diamond)
- Cushion (single centred diamond with four corners like a cushion)
- Pear (single pear-shaped diamond)
- Asscher (rectangle with rounded edges)
- Marquise (like the pear, but pointed on both ends)
- Emerald (a layered rectangle with rounded edges that is smaller at the base)
- Radiant (a layered rectangle diamond, with rounded edges)
- Heart (a heart-shaped diamond or gemstone, with or without a halo of surrounding gemstones)
- Baguette (alternating pattern of rectangle gemstone and smaller square or round gemstone)
Clarity of Diamond
Clarity is calculated depending on the visibility and quantity of flaws within the diamond. The scale ranges from:
- FL – Completely Flawless
- IF – Internally Flawless: external flaws can be removed with further polishing
- VVS1-VVS2 – Very Very Slightly Included: only experts can detect flaws through a microscope
- VS1-VS2 – Very Slightly Included: flaws are visible through a microscope, though not obvious
- SI1-SI2 – Slightly Included: flaws are easily viewed through a 10x microscope
- I1-I2-I3 Included: flaws are noticeable, and can be seen with the naked eye
Carat of Diamond
Carat is merely the size, measured in weight. The most apparent factor and generally determines the price. A carat equals 200 milligrams and is then divided into 100 points. Diamonds from 0.50 – 0.75 carats are the most popular due to their size and value. Larger diamonds are much harder to find in mines, so due to their rarity, they can be much more expensive.
